The Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Classroom Course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. This course is for healthcare professionals such as who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings, Initial Provider Course requires approximately 4.5 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing. Renewal Course requires approximately 4 hours, including skills practice and skills testing. American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers Course Completion Card is valid for two years. In the classroom, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

course description

ACLS is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented. ACLS is designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest and other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units. Initial Provider Course requires approximately 10-12 hours to complete, including skills practice and skills testing. Renewal Course requires approximately 5-6 hours, including skills practice and skills testing. Upon successful course completion, including demonstration of skills competency in all learning stations and passing the CPR and AED skills test, bag-mask ventilation skills test, a Mega code test and a written test, students receive an ACLS course completion card, valid for two years.

Pediatric Advance Cardiac Life Support (PALS)

course description

This classroom, video-based, Instructor-led course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. The PALS Course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. These include personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, physician assistants, nurse practioners, nurses, paramedics and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirements. Course uses learning stations for practice of essential skills simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active participation. Hands-on class format reinforces skills proficiency. This course teaches skills with AHA’s research-proven Practice-While-Watching (PWW) technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback and guide the students’ learning of skills. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. Upon completion of this course, students receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR AED Course Completion Card that is valid for two years.

Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in first aid to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. Upon completion of this course, students receive an American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid Course Completion Card that is valid for two years. During the course, an AHA Instructor conducts video-based lessons and works with students to complete their first aid skills practice and testing.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is an educational program jointly sponsored with the American Heart Association (AHA). The Neonatal Resuscitation Program™ is an educational program that introduces the concepts and basic skills of neonatal resuscitation. Completion of the program does not imply that an individual has the competence to perform neonatal resuscitation. Each NRP Instructor is responsible for determining the level of competence and qualifications required for someone to assume clinical responsibility for neonatal resuscitation. The course has been designed to teach an evidence-based approach to resuscitation of the newborn. It is designed for health care professionals involved in any aspect of neonatal resuscitation, including physicians, physican assistant, nurses, advanced practice nurses, nurse midwives, licensed midwives, respiratory care practitioners, and other health care professionals who provide direct care during neonatal resuscitation.
